A family doctor,reachable in fourlanguages.

Dr. Qaisar Abbas is a general practitioner in Antwerp with patients from many backgrounds. His website had to do what a busy practice cannot do by phone: explain the care on offer, take appointments around the clock, and give clear answers on emergencies, blood draws and the patient portal, in Dutch, English, French and Russian.

Context

The brief.

A general practice lives by the phone, and the phone was the problem. Patients called to ask where to go at night, when blood draws take place, whether the practice takes new patients and how the online portal works. Every call took time away from a consultation.

The practice needed a site that answers those questions before anyone dials, sends patients to the online agenda for appointments, and states the rules for evenings, weekends and holidays without ambiguity. It had to speak the languages of its patients, and it had to feel calm and trustworthy rather than clinical.

And it had to be honest about capacity: when the practice reached its patient stop, the site had to say so clearly and point people to the right alternative.

Approach

What we did.

01

Book online, day or night

Every call to action leads to the practice's online agenda, so patients book, move or cancel an appointment without waiting for the line to be free.

02

Emergencies explained in one block

The out-of-hours post with its address and opening hours, the weekday night number and 112 for real emergencies sit together in one clear section, on the home page and on its own Emergency page.

03

Four languages, one structure

Dutch, English, French and Russian share the same pages and the same navigation, so a patient switches language and finds everything in the same place.

04

Practical hours where people look

Blood draw times, the patient stop notice and the link to the GP finder are on the home page, because that is what people call about.

05

Care listed the way patients think

Thirteen types of care, from a check-up and vaccinations to child care, travel advice and mental health, are listed in plain words, followed by 'how a visit goes' in three steps.

06

Calm, warm and personal

A bright blue accent on calm photography of the doctor and the practice, italic serif highlights and short, human copy make a medical site feel welcoming instead of clinical. The doctor updates hours and notices himself.

The work

Up close.

Result

The outcome.

drqabbas.be now takes the routine questions off the phone: patients book online, read where to go outside hours and see the blood draw times and the patient stop notice before they call.

With one structure in four languages, the practice speaks to all its patients equally, and the doctor keeps hours, notices and pages current himself.
